The University Seal

The Seal is a representation of the University’s educational philosophies and its core science and technology curriculum.

The two main elements of the Seal are an open book and a globe. The book represents academics and learning while the globe above it represents ever-expanding global economy and the “world of opportunities available to future graduates.” On one page of the book is a key--a symbol of careers and access to knowledge—and on the other page is a Delta, a Greek scientific symbol representing change.

A sunburst backdrop emphasizes the University’s role as a source of enlightenment and learning. The words “The Harrisburg University of Science and Technology” surround the elements. The year 2001 is included to denote the University’s year of incorporation in Pennsylvania.

The primary purpose of the Seal is to certify official University documents, including diplomas, certificates, and official acts by the Board of Trustees, and to symbolize official association with the University and its mission. The Seal was unveiled during Founder’s Day activities on December 12, 2006.
