History in the Making as HU Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary and Unveils New Seal

Dec 7, 2006

It will be history in the making when Harrisburg University of Science and Technology commemorates the five-year anniversary of its incorporation with a special celebration, scheduled for December 12, 2006.

“This is a time to take to mark our momentum as the University hits another important milestone. It was December 12, 2001 when the University was incorporated. The date represents the official founding of the University and we are gathering on the fifth anniversary for a historic moment—the University’s very first Founder’s Day Celebration,” says Dr. Mel Schiavelli, president of Harrisburg University.

Local dignitaries, members of the University’s Board of Trustees, honorary alumni, faculty, staff and donors will gather at the popular Harrisburg’s showcase restaurant, Haydn’s on Pine, for the invitation only event, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

“Assistant Secretary of Labor Emily DeRocco remarked last month that ‘Harrisburg University truly is the model for how higher education should be delivered.’ That remark encapsulates our achievements during the past five years.  We’re gathering to commemorate this historical moment and to mark our progress in realizing the vision of this important effort,” says Schiavelli.

Keeping with the celebration of historical moments, the University’s official seal will be unveiled for the first time. Created as a gift-in-kind to the University by Harrisburg advertising and public relations thinkbank, Pavone, the seal is a representation of the University’s educational philosophies and its core science and technology curriculum. This seal will be affixed to each and every diploma that is award to graduates of the University.
