HU celebrates Honorary Alumni Association

Jan 26, 2006

Harrisburg University’s newly formed Honorary Alumni Association offered hooded sweatshirts to over 74 of its Founding Members who donated $1,000 each as part of a kick-off celebration.  The celebration was held on January 25th at HU where Mayor Stephen R. Reed, First Honorary Alumnus, addressed a group of community leaders applauding their support of the University.  Sage Technology Solutions sponsored the celebration and President Daniel Rohrer offered these remarks.  “We are gathered in this room because in some way we have been fortunate…  Millions of people around the world work longer and harder than we do every day just for food and shelter.  We have been blessed with so much, and it is our responsibility to share that blessing with others.  What better way to help your neighbor than to support scholarships at Harrisburg University?”

One hundred percent of the funds raised through the Alumni Association are earmarked for HU student scholarships.  Currently 97% of HU students demonstrate financial need based on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).   Private funds directed to scholarship support help offset $6,800 per student in unmet tuition expense.  In addition to over $100,000 raised through the Honorary Alumni Association’s Kick-Off Celebration, scholarship support has been provided by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., Harrisburg Young Professionals, Penn National Insurance, Property Management Inc., PSECU, Reynolds Construction, and the Wachovia Foundation.

If you would like more information about the Honorary Alumni Association or how to become a Founding Member, please call Harrisburg University’s Development Office at 717-901-5103, or e-mail giving@harrisburgu.net.  $1,000 sweatshirts are still available, but hurry, Founding Membership in the Honorary Alumni Association ends on May 31, 2006.

Special thanks to the volunteers who helped plan the Honorary Alumni Association Kick Off Celebration; Doug Firestone, Barbara Groce, Jaime Novinger, Jessica Meyers, and Greg Rothman.
