Campaign Update Brain Gain
The University conferred degrees to 35 students during its 2010 Commencement and Partners' Day on May 20th. Graduates are discovering that a degree in a STEM field pays career dividends, too. Ninety-two percent of students have been employed in their field of study on graduation day, and most of the graduates took positions in Central Pennsylvania.

10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania has recognized the University with a Commonwealth Award for its role in the redevelopment of downtown Harrisburg.  10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania is a leading statewide voice for creating land use, infrastructure and governance policies and practices that protect resources and strengthen the economy.

Professor Adds Life to Museum Displays

Golf Classic Benefits Student Scholarships
Support scholarships at the University by taking part in the 11th Annual Mark Brezler Memorial Golf Classic, which is set for Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Sportsman’s Golf Course in Harrisburg. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mark Brezler Scholarship Fund at Harrisburg University. The tournament has raised $50,000 for academic scholarships at Harrisburg University.

The Future of Adult Learning
The Future of Adult Learning will be the focus of a Town Hall Discussion led by Bilita Mattes, Associate Provost. The discussion is part of the meeting format at the 2010 National Institute on the Assessment of Adult Learning, scheduled to take place at Caesars Atlantic City on June 11. A team of HU students took 3rd place in the 2010 Bay Area Game Jam, a 24-hour game creation event hosted by Wild Pockets (www.wildpockets.com)

When it comes to careers, e-Learning pays. According to the 2010 Salary and Compensation Report, the average salary of a person who lives in the United States and works in e-Learning is $79,252.  As information changes rapidly and new skills are needed to keep up with new technology, new strategies and new products, businesses must leverage the knowledge of their workforce as a competitive advantage.  An investment in a Learning Technologies Master of Science degree at the University can pay big dividends and be applicable to a lot of environments.

Science & Technology Milestones
The world’s first commercial computer, the Univac Computer, was unveiled on June 14, 1951 and the Apple II was released on June 5, 1977. Computers continue to evolve and to drive career opportunities. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Salary Survey shows 2010 graduates earning computer-related bachelor’s degrees saw their average salary offer soar in comparison to the other disciplines:  Their average offer rose 5.8 percent to $58,746. And, the average offer to computer science majors increased by 4.7 percent, bringing it to $60,426. Harrisburg University offers undergraduate programs and graduate programs that are pathways to careers in those fields.
