The Patriot-News on March 1, 2010, featured an editorial about how Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is quickly gaining a national reputation for its innovative way of delivering higher education. The editors also praised the University for its strategic importance to the city, the progress of its ongoing $40 million fundraising campaign, and for incorporating the input of area businesses in developing its curriculum.

Good Careers Need STEM Good Careers Need STEM
Manufacturing Engineering magazine contains an article on the importance of a STEM-focused education to careers. The article describes how Central Pennsylvania recognized the importance of science and technology skills to its future economic growth in the 1990s and how that discovery led to the 2001 founding of Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, the first science and technology-focused comprehensive university established in the Commonwealth in nearly 100 years.

Technology Educator of the Year Technology Educator of the Year Honors
HU’s Andy Petroski received "Technology Educator of the Year" honors during the TECHQuest PA 2010 Technology Awards Gala. The award recognized the director of Harrisburg University’s Learning Technologies Master of Science (LTMS) program as an "outstanding example of ‘Information Age Educator’ using current technologies to educate, motivate and inspire students to develop careers in technology fields and become lifelong learners.”

New Graduate-Level Specializations
Responding to demand in the region for more graduate-level learning options, graduate-level students have an option to enroll in areas of specialization, normally consisting of 3 to 4 courses, at Harrisburg University. More than 30 areas of specialization are now offered.

Golf Classic Benefit Golf Classic Benefits Our Scholarships
The 11th Annual Mark Brezler Memorial Golf Classic will be held on Friday, June 11, 2010, at the Sportsman’s Golf Course in Harrisburg. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mark Brezler Scholarship Fund at Harrisburg University.

Sara Kehler has joined the University as Manager of Experiential Programs. Sara will develop and implement programs and services aimed at supporting student learning and success in the areas of Experiential Programs, Internships, Career Services and the Business Mentor Program.

New Media Film Festival
Harrisburg University will bring together innovative media creators to share their visions, insights, and creative talents in its New Media Film Festival. Writer, director and producer Otessa Ghadar, creator of the web series "Orange Juice in Bishop’s Garden" will present on March 11. The evening will begin with networking at 5:30 p.m., followed by the screening at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

More than half of the careers that will be created over the next 10 years will require specifically a STEM education.  Many students will gain exposure to STEM careers through the annual Biotechnology Showcase, scheduled for March 26, 2010, at  
Harrisburg  University.

March is “Expanding Girls’ Horizons in Science and Engineering Month"
Take the time
to encourage middle- and high-school girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Harrisburg University offers several Summer Camps that are the perfect way to have fun and learn robotics, biotechnology or how to create computer games.  Plus, some of the camps allow students to earn college credits.
