More than 250 members of the community will gather on December 12th to witness the signing of the final steel beam for our new 16-story $73-million Academic Center. It’s part of our Founder’s Day & Topping-Off Celebration, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Strawberry Square Atrium. Join us as we celebrate reaching the highest structural point in the Academic Center’s construction and the sixth anniversary of Harrisburg University’s 2001 incorporation. Known as Founder’s Day, the December 12th date represents the official founding of the University.

Brain-Gain Partnership in Print
The HYP-HU partnership continues to receive accolades in the media, including the November issue of Harrisburg Magazine. The two-page feature profiles the University’s efforts with the Harrisburg Young Professionals (HYP) to reverse brain drain in the region. You can show off the University’s proud place in our community with an exclusive numbered HU license plate. A numbered HU plate costs $20, the normal cost of a license plate. Any motor vehicle weighing less than 9,000 pounds (except motorcycles) qualifies for the special plate. We plan to welcome more than 200 students, educators, and industry professionals gathering to address education’s role in the “Bio Century” during Biotech Day. Hosted by Harrisburg University, the December 7th event features hands-on experiments, workshops, panel discussions, guest speakers, and other presentations. Biotech Day is a flagship event for education and industry. With its program of lectures, expert discussions, presentations and networking opportunities the free event offers attendees access to decision makers from all areas of the biotechnology industry and education.

Our course offerings have expanded to include real-time training through non-credit online courses taught by experts in our virtual classrooms The course offerings include real-time information technology training in XML, Java, .NET, Adobe, Database, Web Design, and Web Development. Classes meet online at set times and days in this virtual e-learning platform. Corporate Faculty at the University bring extensive professional expertise to our competitive fields of study. Their experience and wisdom enables our students to see how an HU education applies to the career world. Andy Petroski, an award-winning instructional technologist and Sr. Instructional Designer at Highmark Blue Cross, will teach in our Master’s in IT Project Management next semester. We’re also welcoming Daniel Jensen, a consultant specializing in strategic planning, leadership, education, and training to our Master’s in Learning Technologies program.
