PA Stem Center Initiative
Our chief academic officer and executive vice president, Dr. Eric Darr, has been selected for the leadership team for the Pennsylvania STEM Center Initiative.  An effort by the National Governors Association and the Team Pennsylvania Foundation, the STEM Center Initiative will design, develop, implement and evaluate a set of strategies for Pennsylvania’s STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) Agenda through 2018. The Initiative’s efforts target the development of a globally competitive STEM workforce and are aligned with the University’s mission. Governor Edward G. Rendell directs the Leadership Team, which provides the strategic oversight and input.
Gannett Flemming Partner
Our corporate partners provide scholarship support, mentoring and business internships. Chief executive officers often tell us that firms invest in the University because they believe in economic development. The Patriot-News published a feature on Gannett Fleming’s connections to Harrisburg University, noting how the company’s leadership saw the need at Harrisburg University and "asked how we can help." The firm helped develop a curriculum and is teaching five courses with a rotation of five to eight instructors from Gannett Fleming. The firm even hired one of our first graduates.

Political Debate
Civic engagement, information literacy and critical thinking are three of the core competencies our academic programs help students cultivate. The upcoming presidential elections provide ample opportunity for students to develop these skills. That’s why the University is co-sponsoring a free mock debate on the presidential elections with Greenlee Partners, LLC and the Harrisburg Young Professionals. Surrogates from the community will appear for each candidate. The event is free and open to the public. It will take place at 6:30 p.m., April 3, in the Pennsylvania Ballroom of the Hilton Harrisburg Hotel.

STEM Symposium
Nearly 100 educators, administrators, and students from around the nation will present information on ways to improve learning in the STEM disciplines to Congress during an upcoming. Symposium and Capitol Hill Poster Session.  Our National Center for Science and Civic Engagement and its NSF-funded Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities (SENCER) project are holding this event exploring the connection between STEM education, civic engagement and public policy.  The event is set for April 13-15 in Washington, DC.

STEM Symposium
The Honorary Alumni Association is critically important to our new and growing University since we do not yet have an alumni base. Support at all levels allows you to invest in the future of an HU student, as well as the long-term prosperity of the Capital Region. In fact, a recent survey by Central Penn Business Journal found that Harrisburg University is the most significant economic development project in downtown Harrisburg in the past decade, and the one that will have the most long-term impact on our region. As an Honorary Alum of HU, you will be joining more than 200 community, corporate, and philanthropic leaders who generously support student scholarships and academic programs at Harrisburg University.
Commencement & Partner Day

RSVP your plans to join us as we celebrate both our students’ academic achievements and our many partners in the community during our Second Commencement Exercises and Partners Day on May 15. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Auditorium of the State Museum of Pennsylvania, located at 300 North Street in downtown Harrisburg.  For more information, or to RSVP, email Events@HarrisburgU.net or call 717.901.5140.

Project Leadership
The Keystone Chapter of Project Management Institute and the Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania are partnering with us to offer a new training series. Entitled Beyond Technology Project Management to Project Leadership, the series targets mid-level and upper-level managers who are called upon to take a leadership role in technology projects.  This interactive, project-based series moves beyond good process in project management to strategic project management that specifically links activities and goals to the vision and mission of the organization within a framework of change management and team building.
