On a clear and cold November night in 2006, some 300 members of the community gathered for a groundbreaking gala celebration on what was then a parking lot at the corner of Fourth and Market. The guests were invited to explore with us the journey of Harrisburg University, why the University was founded 2001 and where it was heading for the next five years and beyond.

The evening included remarks from assistant United States Secretary Of Labor, Emily Stover DeRocco, the awarding of the University’s first honorary degrees, and a call by Leroy Zimmerman of the Hershey Trust for philanthropic leaders to invest in the University.

Since that event, the Harrisburg skyline has been enhanced with a 200-foot-tall $73-million academic center. Those who joined us at the gala took part in yet another historic moment in the on-going story that is the building of the Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.
