To reduce the gap, and prepare more K-12 and college students—especially minorities and women—for STEM careers, Harrisburg University President, Dr. Mel Schiavelli, suggests that it is time to widen the education funnel so more students enter these critical disciplines. This requires making science and technology accessible and relevant, and introducing new approaches to teaching. That’s the topic of his opinion essay, Science Must Be Relevant and Fun, which appears in the August 4th issue of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
