Aug 11, 2008 - Seventy-Six Educators Named SENCER Leadership Fellows
The National Center for Science and Civic Engagement at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology has appointed 76 distinguished educators from colleges and universities around the nation to the inaugural class of SENCER Leadership Fellows. SENCER – Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities – is the National Science Foundation-supported signature program of the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement (NCSCE) at the University.

Three well-respected business and community leaders have joined the Board of Trustees for Harrisburg University of Science and Technology. The University board has elected and welcomed aboard: W. Thomas (Tom) Kirchhoff, Jr., Executive Vice President & COO of Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co., Inc.; Jessica E. Meyers, Owner and President of JEM Group, a commercial construction company located in Harrisburg; and Robert M. Scaer, registered professional engineer, president of GeoDecisions and Senior Vice-President of Gannett-Fleming.
Aug 6, 2008 - STEM LEARNING: Link Higher Education to Workforce Development
Harrisburg University of Science and Technology Associate Provost for Strategic Markets, Dr. Bilita Mattes, notes that the Commonwealth’s economic competitiveness in the future is dependent upon the educational readiness of the workforce in a recent essay she wrote that has appeared in the August 5th issue of The Patriot-News. Dr. Mattes, who has a professional background in training and development within business and industry, writes that it is a mistake to think of workforce development and higher education separately. Traditional higher education must have an intentional focus on, and commitment to, regional workforce development needs.
